June Book Club

Happy Sunday everyone!

There was a time once where I didn’t have my nose out of a book! But these past couple of years I noticed myself drifting from the reading world and I really started to miss it but found I just didn’t have the time or found it hard switching off from the outside world. However, since lockdown I told myself I had no excuse and have started getting back into reading… and I’ve loved it! It’s made me wonder why I ever stopped!

So I thought once a month I’ll have a lil bookclub and be showing you what I’ve been reading and what I think of the novels.

Half A World Away- Mike Gayle

Rating- 4/5

Would you reccomend?- Yes!!

This is the first book of Mike Gayle’s I have read and after reading this one, I was straight online looking at what other books he has written so I can get my hands on those too! I loved this book. The charcaters felt so real and relatable and that’s something I love when reading. It was impossible not to like them and thats why I couldn’t put the book down… I needed to know what was happening in their lives next! Half A World Away definitely had some laugh out loud moments but eqaully had its tear jerker moments. So if you’re anything like me, (a bit soppy at times), then get your tissues at the ready. To me this is the perfect book if you like a bit of a mix of everything and it leaves you remembering that life really is too short and you can’t take anyone or anything for granted.

Blood Orange- Harriet Tyce

Rating- 3/5

Would you reccomend?- Yes

I’m so mixed about how I feel about this book. At first it took me a while to get into the storyline and get to know the characters… calling this book a slow burner would be a bit of an understatement! One of my favourite things about reading is when you can’t bring yourself to put the book down beacause you’re just enjoying it too much and at the beginning Blood Orange didn’t deliver on that. However, I was determined to give this novel a fair crack, especially with how great it’s reviews were. And I’m so glad I did. In one night I read from chapter 11 right till the end, that’s how engrossed I was! I’ve never read a book with so many twists and turns, each one more shocking than the last. If you like to be kept on your toes and aren’t a fan of the more predictable type of storyline then you’ll love this. You won’t be disappointed!

What book are you reading at the moment? And what book/s are your absolute favourite??
